While Jeff Wall’s photographic works may look completely candid, they are actually entirelymade-up and staged. His scenes are often modelled on well-known works from art history. Wall uses hired actors, selected locations and realistic sets to create cinematic depictions which suggest interrupted narratives, meaningful events and exciting activities or interactions. For both the large scale in which he tends to work - and his frequent use of light boxes - the artist was inspired by the visual language of advertising.
