Ceremonia de la caja (Ceremony of the Crate)

Ceremonia de la caja (Ceremony of the Crate) is part of Sin fin, a group of paintings and drawings from 2010. The inspiration for the series came from a newspaper photograph showing three women using public transport, while on their laps are small caskets containing the remains of family members. The scene painted by González evokes the image of a solemn ceremony that the Colombian government holds when handing over the remains of civilians who have been killed. The artist chose the title Sin fin for these works, because in her view ‘tragedy in Colombia is endless’.
