De Pont is an independent museum of international contemporary art, housed in a former woollen mill in Tilburg, with over 7,000 square meters of exhibition space. The museum follows an artist first policy and focuses on solo exhibitions developed in close collaboration with artists. Artists are followed in their development over the years and collected in depth. The collection comprises around 1,000 works – including painting, sculpture, photography, works on paper, video and film, as well as multimedia installations. We work with a small, dynamic team with a hands-on mentality, and we are seeking a Senior Curator starting 1 October 2026.

As Senior Curator, you will operate at strategic and operational levels and serve as a liaison between the institution’s artistic vision and its organization. Under the leadership of and in collaboration with the Director & Chief Curator, you are responsible for the museum’s artistic program and collection. You curate exhibitions and collection presentations, ensuring quality of content and production at every stage of the process.

Responsibilities

  • Direct colleague and sparring partner of the Director & Chief Curator; together you develop the museum’s artistic course;
  • You initiate, develop, and realize exhibitions in close collaboration with artists;
  • Development and care of the collection: you provide valuable input to the collection strategy, compile collection presentations, and oversee collection management;
  • You prepare budgets for exhibitions and monitor the financial feasibility of projects;
  • You provide direction and guidance to colleagues responsible for exhibition management, marketing and communication, education and public programming;
  • You safeguard quality and coherence across exhibitions, collection presentations, communication channels, and educational offerings;
  • You maintain and expand the museum’s network with institutions, art historians, curators, and other professionals nationally and internationally.

Profile

  • You have a degree in Art History or a comparable relevant background, with broad knowledge of modern and contemporary art;
  • Demonstrable experience in developing exhibitions in close collaboration with artists;
  • Affinity with collection policy and experience working with a contemporary art collection;
  • Extensive experience in planning and overseeing the financial, organizational, and administrative aspects of projects;
  • Experience in leadership and managing multidisciplinary teams;
  • Strategic thinking combined with a hands-on mentality;
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Dutch (physical presence in Tilburg required);
  • Independent, inspiring, meticulous, and persuasive, with respect for the autonomy of artists.

We offer

  • A key position within a leading museum of contemporary art, with an enthusiastic and dynamic team;
  • Close collaboration with the Director & Chief Curator on the museum’s course, with room for artistic initiative;
  • A one-year contract for 36 hours per week with the prospect of extension to a permanent position;
  • A competitive salary with 8% holiday allowance.
