Silvia Martes

1985, lives and works in Amsterdam/Eindhoven

Silvia Martes (b. 1985, Eindhoven) studied in Amsterdam at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, where she completed her postdoctoral residency in 2021. That year she also won the annual Theodora Niemeijer Prize, the only Dutch visual art award for female artists. In 2017, the Mondriaan Fund supported her residency in Ukiha, Japan.
Films by Martes have been screened at the Impakt Festival, Reykjavik International Film Festival, and the Netherlands Film Festival. In autumn 2021, De Pont presented Martes’s first solo exhibition in the Netherlands, screening The Revolutions That Did (Not) Happen.
