De Pont is 25!

On 16 September 2017 the anniversary exhibition ReView was opened in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix.

The festivities began outside, in front of the museum, with the unveiling of a large sculpture by the world-famous British sculptor Anish Kapoor. His Sky Mirror is a gift that was made possible thanks to contributions from the city of Tilburg, local businesses and private individuals, Brabant C, Museum De Pont and the artist himself. Tilburg is the first Dutch city to have a monumental sculpture by Kapoor in its public space.

Anniversary exhibition ReView: already 60.000 visitors!

ReView comprises, in addition to top works from the permanent collection, more than fifty special loans that have been on view in De Pont's various exhibitions over the years. Like guests invited back again: for long-time visitors a special encounter with old friends, for others an initial acquaintance with artworks - many of which now have iconic significance.

Silver

Specially for De Pont's twenty-fifth anniversary, the Dutch composer Anthony Fiumara (Tilburg, 1968) created the composition Silver.

The first performance of the work was held during the opening of the anniversary exhibition. On that day the Italian string quartet Quartetto Maurice played the piece in the musuem's auditorium. Two months later Silver was played by them again during the Fiumarathon in Den Bosch.  Here you can listen to the recording made by the VPRO.

Documentary

On the Sundays 17 and 24 September, a two-part documentary about De Pont, made by Maarten de Kroon & Jeanne van der Horst, was broadcast in the television program Kunstuur, presented by Lucas de Man. Here you can still view the two episodes by clicking on the links: part one en part two.
